The 1981 Henry Krieger-Tom Eyen Broadway musical Dreamgirls receives its long-overdue London premiere, beginning performances November 19 prior to an official opening December 14 at the Savoy Theatre.
The cast is led by Amber Riley as Effie White, Ibinabo Jack as Lorrell Robinson, and Liisi LaFontaine as Deena Jones, making up the singing trio “The Dreams” in the show.
The Broadway director/choreographer Casey Nicholaw, currently represented in the West End by the transfers of The Book of Mormon and Aladdin, makes his London debut originating a new production.
In a press statement, producer Sonia Friedman commented, "It is 35 years since its Broadway premiere, so to finally be the ones to bring it to London with our world-class creative team and incredibly talented, exciting young cast is an honor and privilege. I believe we now have the perfect team to create a sensational production that I hope will be well worth the wait.”
