News New Documentary Explores Making of Jesus Christ Superstar Film and Profiles Original Stars "Superstars," a new documentary that explores the making of the 1973 film adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar, is now available on DVD and online. Also featured is a reunion with original stars Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson and Yvonne Elliman.

Neeley, who starred as Jesus in the film and continues to tour in the musical, produced the DVD. In addition to Anderson (Judas) and Elliman (Mary Magdalene), the DVD includes commentary from Barry Dennan, Bob Bingham, Larry Marshall and Josh Mostel. Special guests on the DVD are original director Norman Jewison.

Jesus Christ Superstar has a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The biblical rock opera dramatizes the final days of Christ.

The film features many members from the original Broadway production. Elliman originated the role of Mary Magdalene. Neeley, who was part of the original ensemble, stepped into the role of Jesus. Anderson, who understudied the role of Judas and later succeeded original star Ben Vereen, was cast in the role for the film adaptation.
