News Murder Ballad To Receive U.K. Premiere Kerry Ellis to star
Kerry Ellis Anton Artemenkov and Richard Mayfield

Murder Ballad — originally seen at Manhattan Theatre Club in 2013 before transferring to the Union Square Theatre — is to receive its London premiere, beginning performances September 29 prior to official opening October 5.

West End star Kerry Ellis, who took over the role of Elphaba in the original London run of Wicked from Idina Menzel and has subsequently also played the role on Broadway, will play Sara, a young New Yorker who is torn between her dangerous ex-boyfriend and her reliable husband.

Led by a sexy bartender who serves as the show's narrator, Murder Ballad documents the details of the torrid affair. When Sara breaks up with Tom, a gritty bartender, she runs into the arms of Michael, a quiet poetry student at NYU. But after the couple get married and have a daughter, Sara longs for her old, dangerous life and begins secretly seeing Tom at his bar downtown. As Sara’s passionate relationship with Tom intensifies she begins to miss her old life with her husband and young child—but by then, it may be too late.

Conceived by Jonathan Larson Award winner Julia Jordan, with book and lyrics by Jordan and music and lyrics by indie rock singer/songwriter Juliana Nash, the London production is presented by Soundcheck Productions.
