Rufus Norris (Festen) will direct the work set to begin May 5, 2005 at the Almeida for a May 12 opening. The run will play through June 18, 2005. Tanya Ronder pens a new adaptation of the Lorca classic originally written in 1932. The work, inspired by a newspaper article about a local murder in Spain, follows the story of love and betrayal as a bride-to-be elopes with her childhood sweetheart, leaving her expecting husband at the altar.
Bernal, who will play the man who steals the heart of the supposed bride, stars as a young Che Guevara in the Walter Salles-directed film "Motorcycle Diaries," penned by playwright Jose Rivera. He reprises the real-life character he also played in the television miniseries "Fidel." The Mexican actor is known for his film work in "Y Tu Mamá También" and "Amores Perros," as well as the upcoming "Bad Education" and "The King." His stage credits include Roberto Zucco, El Abuelo Y Yo and El Rapto de Las Estrellas.
Blood Wedding will feature designs by Katrina Lindsay and music by Orlando Gough.
