Full casting has been found for the upcoming 50th anniversary West End revival of David Hare's Teeth 'n' Smiles, set to play Duke of York's Theatre March 13-June 6. As previously announced, Rebecca Lucy Taylor (aka Self Esteem) will lead the cast as Maggie, with Daniel Raggett at the helm.
Newly announced to be joining them are Michael Fox as Arthur, Phil Daniels as Sarrafian, Bill Caple as Nash, Michael Abubakar as Wilson, Samuel Jordan as Smegs, Jojo Macari as Peyote, Noah Weatherby as Inch, Joseph Evans as Randolph, Aysha Kala as Laura, Christopher Patrick Nolan as Snead, and Roman Asde as Anson, along with Gregor Milne, Damien James, Levi Heaton, Guy Amos, and Daniel Crespin. Casting is by Bryony Jarvis-Taylor.
The work, which premiered in 1975 at London's Royal Court Theatre, follows performances of a band once the fixture of '60s counterculture and now circling the drain. Helen Mirren created the role of fiery frontwoman Maggie in the work's original London production, basing her characterization on Janis Joplin.
Taylor has only burst onto the scene in recent years, first with her chart-topping 2021 single "I Do This All the Time" and albums Prioritise Pleasure and A Complicated Woman. She made her West End debut in 2023, playing Sally Bowles in the long-running immersive revival of Cabaret. Teeth 'n' Smiles will be her first stage return after her extended run in the Kander and Ebb musical.
The revival will feature music by Nick Bicât and lyrics by Tony Bicât, with new additional music and lyrics by Taylor. The creative team will also include scenic designer Chloe Lamford, costume designer Alex Mullins, lighting designer Matt Daw, sound designers Ben and Max Ringham, and music supervisor Liam Godwin. George Jibson serves as associate director.
