Connecticut's Goodspeed Musicals has found a full cast for its upcoming production of The Great Emu War, set to play the company's Terris Theatre October 3-26. Opening night is October 22.
The quirky musical is inspired by a strange-but-true story that saw the Australian government waging war on emus. Press notes describe the show—which features a book by Cal Silberstein and Paul Hodge and songs by Hodge—as "Cats, but with emus." Do with that information as you will.
Playing both humans and birds, the cast will feature LaRaisha DiEvelyn Dionne as Bard, Claire Saunders (Sweeney Todd) as Edith, Ethan Peterson as Ethan, Taylor Matthew (Forbidden Broadway: Comes Out Swinging!) as Meredith, Jeremy Davis (9 to 5) as Enoch, and Morgan Cowling (Once We Lived Here) as McMurray. Casting is by Paul Hardt.
The new musical is being directed and choreographed by Amy Anders Corcoran (Escape to Margaritaville), and will feature music direction by Angie Benson, costume design by Herin Kaputkin, lighting design by Colleen Doherty (Machinal), sound design by Jay Hilton, and orchestrations by Isaac Hayward (Bad Cinderella). Devin Day is serving as production stage manager.
Tickets are at Goodspeed.org.
