News Meadow Brook Takes a Swing at Golf: The Musical During Michigan's Ryder Cup Golf: The Musical, the revue celebrating the fun and frustration of golf, which recently ended its seven month engagement Off-Broadway at The John Houseman Theater Center, will make its Michigan debut at Meadow Brook Theatre in suburban Detroit.

The staging will feature members of the New York cast, and runs Aug. 25-Sept. 19.

The Rochester, MI, engagement of Golf coincides with one of the largest and most prestigious golf events in Detroit, the Ryder Cup (Sept. 17-19). Tickets go on sale July 19 (around the time of the Buick Open there).

The musical, with book, lyrics and music by Michael Roberts, based on a concept by Eric Krebs, began performances Oct. 8, 2003, and had its official opening on Nov. 19. Golf: The Musical played 40 previews and 136 performances.

"We are opening companies in Jupiter, Florida, Detroit, Phoenix and Troon, Scotland this year," producer Eric Krebs said in a statement. "We are in talks to bring Golf to theatres in Hilton Head, South Carolina, Tampa Bay, Omaha, St. Andrews, Scotland and Japan, as well as rapidly growing our private touring company."

The Off-Broadway show featured musical direction and arrangements by Ken Lundie, set design by James Joughin, costumes by Bernard Grenier and lighting design by Aaron Spivey.  The production was directed by Christopher Scott and featured Joel Blum, Trisha Rapier, Christopher Sutton and Sal Viviano, who are heard on the original Off-Broadway cast recording, available through www.golfthemusical.com.
