David Steen's 1991 award-winning play, Avenue A, finishes its extended Off-Broadway run at the 29th Street Rep Nov. 15. Its original stint was scheduled (Thursday-Monday only) Sept. 16-Oct. 9 but then moved onto an off Broadway schedule Oct. 13. Jim Holmes, a Drama-Logue and L.A. Critics Circle Award winner for Avenue A, directs.
The three actors of Avenue A, 29th Street Rep members Moira MacDonald, David Mogentale and Thomas Wehrle, portray several societal misfits searching for an American Dream but with little chance of getting it right. Formerly a film actor ("Reservoir Dogs," "Of Mice and Men"), Steen is the author of A Gift From Heaven and co-author of 1999 Sundance Film Festival premiere film, "The Corndog Man."
Designing the show are Philipp Bartsch (sets), Christopher Hassfurther (lights), Cathy Small (costumes) and Will Pitts (sound). Cesar Malantic is the production stage manager.
Tickets are $15 and available by calling (212) 465-0575. All Thursday performances are Pay-What-You-Can. The 29th Street Rep Theatre is located at 212 West 29th Street.
29th Street Rep produced last year's hit Killer Joe, which transferred to an Off-Broadway run. Other recent productions include Tammy Ryan's Pig and J.B. Miller's Bobby Supreme. -- By Christine Ehren
