Joey Fatone, his boy-singer pal from the now-disbanded pop group, has appeared as Mark in Rent and Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors. In Hairspray, Bass will play Corny, the charming Baltimore TV dance-show host, through Jan. 6, 2008, a spokesman said.
Bass will be with Hairspray during the period following the July release of the movie version of the Marc Shaiman-Scott Wittman-Thomas Meehan-Mark O'Donnell smash.
It remains to be seen if the Hollywood version will help goose box office for the Broadway original; Chicago benefited from its film version.
Bass and his 'N Sync pals (including Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and JC Chasez) were a music sensation in the last decade, releasing albums "'N Sync," "Home for the Holidays," "Celebrity," "No Strings Attached," "The Winter Album."

In Hairspray "it's 1962 — the '50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion — to dance. Hairspray will celebrate its fifth anniversary on Broadway in August. It's the winner of eight 2003 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
