Off-Broadway's La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club will kick off the new year with Humanismo Project, a two-part series featuring adaptations of the works of Aristotle and Euripides.

The first installment, Aristotle Thinks Again, will play the Downstairs Theatre January 25–February 4, 2024. Featuring original text by Chuck Mee, Dan Safer will direct the exploration of post-apocalyptic possibilities and the dichotomy of how awful humanity can be and how wonderful being a human can be.

The cast will include La MaMa’s Great Jones Repertory members Maura Nguyen Donahue, John Maria Gutierrez, Valois Mickens, and Kim Savarino, as well as guest artist Marcus McGregor.

The second installment, coming this spring, will be a contemporary adaptation of Euripides' Medea set during a refugee crisis. Zishan Ugurlu will direct. Further details and performance dates will be announced soon.

Exploring Greek tragedy, humanity, and existentialism, the new works were developed as part of the company’s resident Great Jones Repertory’s Ancient Futures Series.
