The award recognizes "exceptional achievement by and for children in the arts, and is given annually to an individual whose professional and personal achievement serves as an inspiration to young artists and who has given their heart, talent, and spirit to empowering youth in the arts," according to a press statement.
"Words cannot even begin to describe the tremendous impact and influence Ms. Chenoweth has had on the arts, and more specifically on our students at Boston Children's Theatre," stated BCT executive artistic director Burgess Clark. "Ms. Chenoweth's passion for her craft and her dedication to educating, inspiring and motivating young actors, is unsurpassed in this industry. Beloved by so many for her astounding talents and contributions to the world of theater, television and film, Ms. Chenoweth has also devoted herself to enriching the lives of young performers worldwide. Our BCT family is honored to recognize Ms. Chenoweth on April 28 and to celebrate her with a rousing standing ovation!"
Chenoweth won her Tony for her performance in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She was most recently on Broadway playing the glamorous film star, Lily Garland, in the Roundabout Theatre Company's On the Twentieth Century.
The Gala, which includes performances by current BCT students and alumni, a silent auction, cocktails and dinner, will be held at 6 PM at WGBH Studios, 1 Guest Street, Boston.
