A benefit reading of Mathilde Dratwa's A Play About David Mamet Writing a Play About Harvey Weinstein, performing July 21 at Playwrights Horizons' Judith O. Rubin Theater, has added some special cameos. The performance will feature female playwrights Hansol Jung, Heidi Schreck, Sanaz Toossi, and Whitney White, each making a cameo appearance from the audience.
Directed by Leslye Headland, the reading benefits the New York Civil Liberties Union. The onstage cast will feature Abbi Jacobson, Billy Eichner, Heléne Yorke, and two-time Tony winner Kara Young.
A limited number of $50 general admission rush tickets have been put on sale at APlayAbout.com.
A Play About David Mamet Writing a Play About Harvey Weinstein, press notes state, is about "Mamet (who has, in real life, written a play about Weinstein); it’s about way too many dudes named David; but, first and foremost, it’s about three women—each with her own reasons to be pretty… angry."
“We have been enamored with Mathilde’s audacious, surprising, and moving play since we first read it,” producers George Strus and Rachel Sussman said in an earlier joint statement. “We are thrilled to have assembled this stellar cast under Leslye Headland’s leadership to support the unceasing work of the NYCLU at this crucial moment.”
Strus of Benson Drive Productions, Sussman of Soto Productions, and Isabelle Mann of Funroe Productions produce.
