Manhattan Theatre Club has announced casting for the New York premiere of Actually, a new play by Anna Ziegler that explores themes of race, truth, and sexual consent on a college campus. Joshua Boone and Alexandra Socha will star in the fall production Off-Broadway, set to begin previews October 31.
Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, the two-hander will play at The Studio at Stage II - Harold and Mimi Steinberg New Play Series, with an opening night set for November 14. Boone (Holler If Ya Hear Me, Classic Stage Company's Mother Courage and Her Children) and Socha (Spring Awakening, Fun Home) reprise their roles from the play’s acclaimed Williamstown Theatre Festival production this past summer; WTF is attached as a co-producer.
Set at Princeton University, Actually recounts a tale of alleged sexual assault between two freshmen. The play takes on the loaded topic of consent and the intersection of race and gender in schools today.
The creative team features Adam Rigg (scenic design), Paloma Young (costume design), Yi Zhao (lighting design), and Jane Shaw (sound design).
The co-world premiere of Actually was produced by Geffen Playhouse and Williamstown Theatre Festival in 2017.
