The Public Theater’s Public Forum initiative, home to the Off-Broadway theatre’s audience and engagement activities, will take over Joe’s Pub beginning in January 2018 for a series of free monthly Civic Salons. The aim of the gatherings will be to inspire civic engagement and social change in the face of current political divisiveness.

Each month will feature a different theme and different participants performing various readings, songs, and lectures.

The Civic Salons will be held January 20, February 25, March 18, April 22, and May 20 at noon. The events will be free to attend with a full brunch menu available for purchase. RSVPs will open two weeks prior to the event date on the Public Theater website.

The 2018 spring Public Forum line-up also includes the return of Harvard professor Michael Sandel on February 5 in Who Needs Truth? An Evening of Politics and Performance at the Great Hall at The Cooper Union. The evening will see Sandel lead a debate on the fate of truth in our society. Public Forum will also host the 2018 Poetic Address to the Nation on April 15 at Joe’s Pub in partnership with the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture. The event will feature performances from a mix of playwrights, poets, and musicians.
