Broadway alum Jessica Hendy's solo musical Walking With Bubbles, which opened in April at Off-Broadway's newly renovated AMT Theater, has extended its run. Originally scheduled through June 18, performances will now continue through September 10.
Written and performed by Hendy, the show features music and lyrics by Brianna Kothari Barnes and direction by Richard Hess.
The work, which recently won the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Solo Performance, explores Hendy's time as a Broadway actor (Hendy's credits include Cats, Amour, and AIDA) while being a single mom struggling with mental illness.
"It's scary to be so vulnerable in sharing the private issues I've faced in my personal life and within my family, but it's also an important part of healing," Hendy previously said. "Brianna and I have come together to bring this taboo topic into the spotlight. It impacts so many people but is seldom talked about."
Presented by Tom D’Angora and Michael D’Angora, the production also has lighting design by Aiden Bezark, set design by Mark Halpin, piano accompaniment by Alexandra Crosby, music supervision by Jacob Yates, with Liz Beatty serving as the production’s stage manager.
The work, initially a play with music, premiered at Irondale Theatre's On Woman festival in 2021, after which Barnes was brought on to supply an original score. An industry reading of the musical version was held last year in Manhattan.
Walking With Bubbles is co-produced with Scott Coulter and Dave Gaebler, Vibecke Dahle Dellapolla, Jill Wilkinson in association with Erica Huss and Dame Productions and Linda Mountain.
