Jennifer Hudson reached EGOT status at the 2022 Tony Awards for her A Strange Loop win. Taking home the award for Best Musical, co-producer Hudson became the second Black woman who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, following Whoopi Goldberg.
Hudson, having starred in the musical movies Dreamgirls and Respect, won an Emmy for her work on the Oculus Quest-based interactive fairy tale Baba Yaga, a Best R&B Album Grammy for her self-titled album and Best Musical Theater Album for The Color Purple, and a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Dreamgirls.
A Strange Loop won two awards during the ceremony. In addition to Best Musical, Michael R. Jackson received a nod for Best Book of a Musical.
