After the Fair, the award-winning musical penned by lyricist-librettist Stephen Cole and composer Matthew Martin Ward, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a one-night-only concert December 21 at Urban Stages. The 7 PM concert is part of the Off-Broadway company's Winter Rhythms Series.
The evening will feature the talents of Mary Jo Dugaw (who starred in the musical at Washington's Village Theatre), School of Rock's Jenn Gambatese, The Phantom of the Opera's Tim Jerome, and Joshua Hinck.
Composer Ward will be featured at the piano with Cole directing.
The romantic musical, based on a Thomas Hardy story and set in 19th-century England, premiered 20 years ago at Dallas’ Lyric Stage and subsequently played the Apple Tree in Chicago, York Theatre Company in Manhattan, and London's Kings Head Theatre.
Patti LuPone, Gabby Beans, Susan Stroman, André Bishop, and more are featured in this special look back, along with clips from War Horse, The Light in the Piazza, South Pacific, and more.
The new work from playwright Liana Sonenclar follows a high school track star forced to confront some tricky feelings when she reconnects with a former teammate.
