At the Tony Awards, after the statues are given to the winners, they are taken to the media room, where they speak to journalists about their prizes. Playbill was able to have some one-on-one time with some of the 2023 Tony winners. We spoke with J. Harrison Ghee after winning the prize for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for their work as Jerry and Daphne in Some Like It Hot.
Watch the video above to see Ghee react to winning.
"I am floating, and yet grounded," they told us about winning the Tony Award. They also said they had "manifested" the prize for themselves; the night before the Tony Awards, while performing at Some Like It Hot, they thought to themselves: "This is the last time I'm doing the show as a Tony nominee."
Ghee was the second openly non-binary actor to ever win a Tony for an acting performance following Alex Newell's win earlier in the evening for their performance in Shucked.
