The highly anticipated production of Hamilton in Puerto Rico, in which Lin-Manuel Miranda will reprise his role as founding father Alexander Hamilton, has announced that it will move theatres from University of Puerto Rico's Rio Piedras campus to the Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferrè theatre, citing security concerns.
Previews will now begin January 11, instead of January 8. January 11 remains the production's official opening night, and performances will be added to compensate for the three canceled previews, according to the New York Times.Producers made the change over possible protests on the campus by faculty concerned over budget cuts; the new theatre will make security easier to obtain. Miranda's father, Luis A. Miranda, Jr.—an alum of the university—tweeted about the theatre change December 21.
