On Aug. 23 the musical Hair, which was written by Gerome Ragni, James Rado and Galt McDermot, will start a 30th anniversary European Tour in Maastricht, The Netherlands.
Hair originally opened at the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theater for a limited run of six weeks on October 17, 1967. It then re-opened on Broadway at the Biltmore Theatre on April 29, 1968, where it ran for 1,742 performances and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical Play. A movie version of Hair was released in October 1979.
The production will tour 71 theatres in The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg until May 1999. Tour dates in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Austria are still in negotiation.
The cast will be international, with people from the U.S.A. and The Netherlands, along with a band of Dutch musicians. The 30th anniversary European Tour will be directed by Shawn Rosa, who is the artistic director and founder of the Third Eye Repertory in New York, with choreography by Joe Donovan
