Previews are underway for The Shed's rescheduled revival of Tarell Alvin McCraney's The Brothers Size, which will officially open September 10.
Celebrating the work's 20th anniversary, the production is playing the Off-Broadway venue's Griffin Theater through September 28. The co-production with Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse had initially been announced to run earlier this year. McCraney and Bijan Sheibani co-direct.
The production stars André Holland (Moonlight) as Ogun Size, Alani iLongwe (Paradise Blue) as Oshoosi Size, and Malcom Mays (Power Book III: Raising Kanan) as Elegba; iLongwe and Mays are both reprising their performances from the revival's Geffen Playhouse run last year. Understudies Stephen Cofield, Jr. and Israel Erron Ford round out the Off-Broadway company. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Destiny Lilly, with original Geffen casting by Phyllis Schuringa.

The work explores themes of brotherhood, resilience, and the complexities of the Black male experience through the story of two brothers navigating life after incarceration. The work is the second in McCraney's Brother/Sister Plays triptych, originally premiering simultaneously at both Off-Broadway's Public Theater (a co-production with Foundry Theatre) and London's Young Vic Theatre in 2007.
The production features choreography by Juel D. Lane, scenic design by Suzu Sakai, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Spencer Doughtie (from Adam Honoré's original), sound design and original music by Stan Mathabane, and intimacy direction by Sarah Lozoff. The associate director is Kemar Jewel, with JP Queenan serving as associate sound designer and Sarah Lindsley as associate costume designer.
