Rishi Varma's new play, Sulfur Bottom began performances Off-Broadway at the Theater Center August 13, and Playbill has the pictures to prove it!

Playing The Jerry Orbach Theater at the midtown venue, the play will officially open August 20. The production is scheduled to play Wednesdays at 7:30 PM and Saturdays at 1 PM.

Set in a decaying home on the edge of industrial sprawl, Sulfur Bottom explores the quiet devastation of environmental collapse through the eyes of one family over 40 years.

“I wrote this play because I kept thinking about what it means to stay, even when the place you love and call home is trying to kill you,” said Varma in a previous statement. “When the water’s toxic and the walls are crumbling, a talking whale doesn’t feel that far off. The surreal is the only part that makes any sense”

The Off-Broadway production stars Kendyl Davis, who portrays the central character, searching for a way out of the toxic landscape; Kevin Richard Best, the fumbling patriarch trying to cement his legacy; and Joyah Dominique, the no-filter tornado of energy who struggles to find her own footing. Feyisola Soetan, Eric Easter, and Isaiah Joseph complete the cast. The production is directed by Megumi Nakamura
