The Larry Gelbart/ Burt Shevelove/ Stephen Sondheim musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum opens Oct. 16 at The Brazil USA Auditorium, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Set in ancient Rome, this 1961 musical farce tells the story of Pseudolus, a clever slave who will do just about anything to win his freedom. When his master promises to set him free in exchange for his help in winning a woman´s heart, the future starts looking brighter. However, he learns soon enough that to win beautiful Philia he must cross swords and wits with the cruel general to whom she is promised in marriage.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is directed by Fausto Viana. Lyrics by Sondheim (who also did the music) will remain in the original English.
Playing the leading roles Allan Benatti as Pseudolus plus Angela Bonini as the beautiful courtesan Philia.
