New York City’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center will host a September 13 talkback with the innovative artists who brought the lesbian coming-of-age musical Fun Home to Broadway.
An Evening with Fun Home will reunite the cast and creators just days after the show plays its final Broadway performance September 10 at Circle in the Square.
Fun Home stars Michael Cerveris and Judy Kuhn will join the show’s book writer/lyricist Lisa Kron and composer Jeanine Tesori for a recap and discussion about the creative journey that turned Alison Bechdel’s best-selling graphic memoir into a hit, Tony-winning musical.
The unconventional show made history, becoming the first Broadway musical written by women to win the Best Musical Tony, and the first Broadway musical to have a lesbian protagonist. Tesori and Kron won the Tony Award for Best Original Score. It won five Tony Awards in all, including Best Book (Kron), Best Direction (Sam Gold), with Cerveris earning the Tony for Best Lead Actor in a Musical.
Presented as part of The Center’s Second Tuesday lecture series, An Evening with Fun Home will begin at 7 PM. Adam Hetrick, Editor in Chief of Playbill.com, will join as the evening’s guest moderator.
Tickets to An Evening with Fun Home are priced $10. Click here to purchase.
The Center is located at 208 West 13 Street in the West Village.
