The Directors Company and Pascal Productions have announced full casting for the world premiere of A Better Place, Wendy Beckett’s newest work about two Manhattan residents’ lust for the perfect real estate.
Directed by Evan Bergman, the cast will feature Jessica DiGiovanni (Sleepwalkers), John FitzGibbon (Murder in the First), Drama Desk Award nominee Judith Hawking (Soldier’s Wife), Edward James Hyland (Bridge of Spies, Machinal), Rob Maitner (Urinetown) and Michael Satow (Final Analysis).
A Better Place begins performances May 4 at The Duke on 42nd Street and will officially open May 15. The limited engagement is set to run Off-Broadway through June 12.
In Beckett’s new play, a male couple become transfixed by their neighbors and their ideal-looking lives. “The lifestyle over there is sumptuous, and they have a quirky daughter whose tastes run to exhibitionism,” state production notes. “Speculation begins...where did they get all that wealth? And what about the kooky brokers who regularly visit them? Who are these funny people in the glorious glass box? We all want what they have! Could it be they have attained- A Better Place?”
The creative team includes David Arsenault (scenic design), Russell H. Champa (lighting design), Valerie Marcus Ramshur (costume design) and Sam Kunetz (sound design).
Tickets will go on sale March 22 and can be purchased by visiting www.dukeon42.org, by calling (646) 223-3010, and in person at the Duke on 42nd Street box office, located at 229 West 42nd Street.
