Focus Features has revealed the first look at Tony winner Cynthia Erivo in her first leading film role: Harriet Tubman in the upcoming biopic Harriet. Take a look at the Tony winner as the famed abolitionist above.
The motion picture, directed by Kasi Lemmons (who also penned the screenplay with Gregory Allen Howard), filmed last fall and is slated to arrive in movie theatres later this year; no word yet on a premiere date.
Joining Erivo in the cast are Hamilton alum and fellow Tony winner Leslie Odom Jr., Tony nominee Clarke Peters, Broadway alum Jennifer Nettles, Grammy nominee Janelle Monae, and Joe Alwyn.
After earning a Tony for her star turn as Celie in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, Erivo headed to the screen, appearing in last year's Widows and Bad Times at the El Royale. Additional upcoming films include Chaos Walking and Needle in a Timestack.
