After turns onstage in Cabaret, Tick, Tick…Boom! and Enchanted April, Molly Ringwald is set to return to the New York stage in the American debut of Terms of Endearment by Dan Gordon at 59E59 Theaters this fall.

The actress, who is well known for having starred in iconic movies like Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink, will take on the role of the highly opinionated Aurora Greenway in Gordon’s stage adaptation. Shirley MacLaine won an Oscar for playing the role on screen opposite Debra Winger as her daughter. The film won the 1983 Academy Award for Best Picture.

The play is based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry and the Oscar-winning screenplay by James L. Brooks, which traces the love/hate relationship between a mother, played by Ringwald, and her feisty daughter. “This funny and touching story about love captures the delicate, and sometimes fractured, bonds between mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, and lovers both old and new,“ read production notes from 59E59 Theaters.

Performances of Terms of Endearment are set to begin October 29, for a limited engagement scheduled to run through December 11. Michael Parva directs for The Directors Company at 59E59 Theaters Off-Broadway.

More casting and opening night details will be announced shortly.
