Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge!, Star Wars, Halston) will return to the London stage for the first time in nearly two decades to star in Lila Raicek's My Master Builder.
Previews will begin April 17, 2025, prior to an official opening April 29 at Wyndham's Theatre. Performances will continue through July 12. Michael Grandage is directing, with his Michael Grandage Company co-producing with MarketStall and Seaview.
My Master Builder reunites McGregor and Grandage following their earlier collaborations on Othello and Guys and Dolls, both for the Donmar, where Grandage was artistic director. Additional casting and creative team members will be announced at a later date.
Inspired by Ibsen, My Master Builder is set on July 4 in the Hamptons as Elena Solness, a publishing
magnate, is preparing to throw a party to celebrate her architect
husband, Henry Solness (McGregor), as he unveils his latest masterpiece.
Their vulnerable union is shattered by the unexpected arrival
of Mathilde, a former student of Henry’s, with whom he shared
an intimate connection.
In a statement McGregor said, “It’s such a thrill to be returning to the stage—and to work with Michael again, an actor’s director with whom I have had some of my happiest working experiences. He’s a generous collaborator, who enables you to discover the play together afresh in the rehearsal room. And what a play—I love where Lila has taken the story, a very modern take on today's sexual politics.”
