When a technical malfunction stopped the play following the show's first scene, audience members asked musical theatre favorite Raul Esparza, who co-stars in the production, to entertain with a song. The three-time Tony nominee consented and performed Sondheim's "Marry Me a Little" a cappella, according to The New York Times.
The play resumed following Esparza's rendition of the Company tune. Esparza, it should be noted, was Tony-nominated for his performance as Bobby in the most recent Broadway revival of Company.
Jeremy Piven and Elisabeth Moss are also featured in the Speed-the-Plow revival, which is playing a limited engagement through Feb. 22, 2009. Atlantic Theater Company artistic director Neil Pepe directed.
"Speed-the-Plow focuses on two high-powered Hollywood executives, Charlie Fox and Bobby Gould, who have come up from the mailroom together," according to press notes. "Charlie brings Bobbie a surefire hit with a major star attached. Bobby seems certain to give the green light, until his beautiful new secretary gets involved."
