Los Angeles News Eddie Izzard's Solo Hamlet Will Play Los Angeles

Selena Cadell directs Mark Izzard's adaptation of the Shakespeare classic.

Eddie Izzard's acclaimed solo version of William Shakespeare's Hamlet will play Los Angeles in 2026.

The solo Hamlet, which played two extended engagements Off-Broadway in 2024, subsequently played Chicago Shakespeare Theater and London’s Riverside Studios, will play Los Angeles for seven performances, running January 22-31, 2026, at The Montalbán Theatre.

In the piece, Izzard plays 23 characters in the Shakespearean tragedy. Selena Cadell directs Mark Izzard's adaptation. The two also worked with Izzard on Great Expectations

The Off-Broadway runs of Hamlet received a New York Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding Solo Performance, as well as a nomination for the New York Drama League’s Distinguished Performance Award. Read reviews for the Off-Broadway run here.

The production has set design by Tom Piper, lighting by Tyler Elich, costume styling by Piper and Libby DaCosta, and movement direction by Didi Hopkins.

A Tony nominee for her performance in A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, Izzard was also seen on Broadway in Race. Her London stage credits include The Cryptogram, Edward II, 900 Oneonta, Joe Egg, and Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations.
