Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen's Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors has set an Off-Broadway bow at New World Stages, with performances beginning September 4 ahead of a September 18 opening night. The limited 18-week run will continue through January 7, 2024.

The five person company will include Jordan Boatman (Medea), Arnie Burton (The 39 Steps), James Daly (Letterkenny), Ellen Harvey (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) and Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Newsies).

Described as "lightning fast," the work reimagines Bram Stoker's classic vampire tale, recasting Dracula as a pansexual gen-z Count in the midst of an existential crisis.

"In re-reading Dracula, we were surprised and intrigued by the boldness with which Stoker, a closeted gay man in Victorian England, plays with sexuality and gender norms," says Greenberg in a statement. "We wanted to celebrate him and, at the same time, send up his moody, broody melodrama in the spirit of some of our comedic heroes like Charles Ludlam, Monty Python, and Mel Brooks," adds Rosen.

Greenberg is directing the Off-Broadway production after staging earlier runs at Maltz Jupiter Theatre in Florida, Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany, and Segal Centre for Performing Arts in Montreal. The farce also became a podcast radio play in May 2020, with a cast including Christopher Sieber, Laura Benanti, and John Stamos.

The upcoming NYC premiere is not a replica of earlier stagings. The upcoming production will feature scenic design by Tijana Bjelajac, costume design by Tristan Raines, lighting design by Rob Denton, sound design by Victoria Deiorio, and wig and hair design by Ashley Rae Callahan. Morgan Holbrook will be production stage manager, and casting is by JZ Casting. Drew & Dane Productions is producing the Off-Broadway bow, with Dori Berinstein serving as executive producer.
