Sam Gold (Fun Home, The Flick) will direct the four-person drama that features Lane (The Cherry Orchard, Sweet Bird of Youth, "Unfaithful") and Shalhoub ("Monk," Act One, Golden Boy) as a couple whose relationship is threatened when a series of secrets about their past is revealed.
They will be joined Mamoudou Athie (Generations) and Gayle Rankin (Cabaret, Tribes). Opening night is set for March 2.
According to LCT, "The Mystery of Love and Sex is the story of four individuals whose lives remain inextricably intertwined over time. Charlotte (Rankin) and Jonny (Athie) are two college students and long-time friends since the age of 9. As their relationship turns romantic, over her parents' (Lane and Shalhoub) objections, an onslaught of truths about their past is unleashed, threatening not only their relationship with each other, but with their families as well."
The production will have sets by Andrew Lieberman, costumes by Kaye Voyce, lighting by Jane Cox and original music and sound by Daniel Kluger.
Doran is the playwright of Kin. She also serves as a writer-producer of "Masters of Sex" and previously "Boardwalk Empire."
