Daniel Posada (Del Otro Lado del Jardín) has signed on to direct the upcoming film Débora, written by stage director-writer Will Nunziata. As previously announced, the project will feature Colombian stage star Marcela Mar in the title role, revolutionary Colombian painter Débora Arango.
The film will dramatize Arango's life, showing how she used her art to rebel against the patriarchy, censorship, and religious persecution while reshaping 20th century Colombia.
“What drew me to Débora Arango’s story is how fiercely she chose to be herself in a world that told her not to," says Posada in a statement. "As a woman and an artist, she faced obstacles and resistance at every turn, yet she created, rebelled, and lived with unapologetic conviction and truth. That kind of revolutionary spirit is something the world needs more of today. I’m incredibly excited to bring this story to life with Marcela Mar, one of the most talented actresses I know, and a truly generous soul. As well as with Will Nunziata, whose script moved me from the very first read. I can’t wait to translate his beautiful words into images.”
Nunziata is executive producing with Yaakov Gottlieb.
The project plans to launch at festivals internationally in 2027.
