Pipeline Theatre Company hosts the world premiere of Kairos Looney's House of Telescopes, officially opening April 3 after beginning previews March 22 at A.R.T./New York Theatres' Mezzanine Theatre. The run will continue through April 21. Lyam B. Gabel is directing.

Described as a "coming of age transgender fantasia," the work centers on a Minneapolis home where "identity is mutable, the boundaries between our own world and the next are thin, and acceptance can come from the least expected of places—found community, chosen family, ghosts, and even demons." The work marks Looney's Off-Broadway debut.

The cast includes Kris Carrasco, Daxx, Joyah Dominique, Francesca Fernandez, Lisa Stephen Friday, Abdu Garmazi, Rai González, Noa Graham, LA Head, André Jordan, Ren King, Andreas Pliatsikas, Al Piper, Joshua David Robinson, Trinity G. Ross, and Gwynne Wood. Casting is by Bass/Valle Casting's Gama Valle.

“House of Telescopes asks the audience to imagine a new world that at once cherishes trans people of color and refuses to leave anyone behind," said Looney in an earlier statement. "In lovingly weaving together the imperfections of a chosen family and the missteps of a family of origin, House of Telescopes contends that while we cannot be perfect, nor always predict how a system of oppression will act through us, every person has the capacity to change. The play also speaks directly to the trans community about pervasive issues of gatekeeping, perfectionism, and martyrdom. All told, House of Telescopes endeavors to demonstrate how trans liberation will free us all.”

The production also features music and music direction by Aya Aziz, scenic design by Melpomene Katakalos, lighting design by Andre Segar, sound design by Travis Joseph Wright, and media design by Joseph Amodei. Kyra Bowie is production stage manager.
