The 17th season of New York Theatre Barn’s New Works Series will conclude November 11 at 7 PM ET at the Five Angels Theater with excerpts from the new musicals Plane Girl and Magia. The evening will also be live streamed.
The musical comedy Plane Girl—written by Hayley Goldenberg, Canaan J. Harris, and Julia Sonya Koyfman—follows 16-year-old aspiring pilot and Amelia Earhart fanatic, Jeri Robertson. Autumn Angelettie will direct an all-women cast featuring Mia Gerachis (Sweeney Todd), Claire Kwon (Almost Famous), Jessie MacBeth (Xena: Warrior Musical), and Katryna Marttala. Canaan J. Harris is the music director.
With a book, music, and lyrics by Letitia Bullard and Nathan Leitão, Magia (magic) follows Leilani, a teen girl who attempts to save her ailing father by stealing a wish from the magical island, Tekoha. Harmony Harris will direct a cast that includes Raven Chareal (Mad Hatter), Nya Noemi (El Otro Oz), Jarvis Matthews, and Danny Lamache. Roberto Gonzalez is the musical director.
A conversation with the writers, moderated by Artistic Director Joe Barros and producer Harmony Harris, will also be part of the evening.
