Rachael Warren, Simon Jones and Dennis Creaghan will perform as Eliza Doolittle, Henry Higgins and Colonel Pickering, respectively. Previews begin July 3 for a run slated through Aug. 1 at the Connecticut venue.
Featuring music by Frederick Loewe and lyrics and book by Alan Jay Lerner, My Fair Lady is the classic musical retelling of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion. The comedy finds Professor Henry Higgins attempting to transform lowly flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a well-spoken socialite. Director Gary Griffin (the upcoming The Color Purple musical) adds his touch to the musical that features a cast of ten alongside two grand pianos.
The score of My Fair Lady features such classic Broadway songs as "I Could Have Danced All Night," "On the Street Where You Live," "Wouldn't It Be Loverly," "Get Me to the Church on Time" and "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face"
The production, currently performed at New Jersey's McCarter Theatre Center through June 27, will feature most the NJ cast including Jane Connell (the original Agnes Gooch in the musical Mame) as Mrs. Higgins. Also continuing from the McCarter company are Michael McCarty (as Alfred P. Doolittle), Jim Stanek (as Freddy Eynsford-Hill), Patricia Kilgarriff (as Mrs. Pearce), Brenda Martindale (as Mrs. Eynsford-Hill) and Jeff Edgerton and Stephen Mo Hanan (in multiple roles).
Warren (Trinity Rep's The Long Christmas Ride Home)has performed as Eliza Doolittle in Trinity Rep's My Fair Lady. Jones (Waiting in the Wings) is currently playing Pickering in My Fair Lady at the McCarter and played Higgins in a Michigan Opera Thatre staging more than a decade ago. Creaghan has appeared in 45 Seconds from Broadway and The Elephant Man. Griffin has directed the Olivier Award-winning Pacific Overtures at London's Donmar Warehouse as well as Pardon My English and The New Moon for New York's City Center Encores! series. The seven-time Joseph Jefferson Awards winner serves as associate artistic director at Chicago Shakespeare Theater and is at work on the upcoming Broadway-bound musical version of The Color Purple. The design team for My Fair Lady includes Jon Culbert (set), Nan Cibula Jenkins (costume) and Chris Binder (lighting).
