Regional News Cast Announced for Mary Zimmerman-Directed Magic Flute Adaptation

The opera-in-miniature adaptation at Chicago's Goodman will feature a cast of 16 actors and five musicians.

Full casting has been revealed for the Goodman Theatre production of The Matchbox Magic Flute, Mary Zimmerman's opera-in-miniature adaptation of Mozart's audience-favorite opera. Directed and adapted by Tony winner Zimmerman, it will play the Chicago venue February 10–March 10.

The production will offer "big music in a small space," with a cast of 16 actors and five musicians. The cast will include Marlene Fernandez as Pamina, Keanon Kyles as Sarastro, Russell Mernagh as Monostatos, Lauren Molina as Papagena/Lady, Tina Muñoz Pandya as Lady, Reese Parish as The Spirit, Shawn Pfautsch as Papageno, Emily Rohm as Queen of the Night, Billy Rude as Tamino, and Monica West as Lady.

Dario Amador-Lage, Ann Delaney, Devin DeSantis, Holly Hinchliffe, Nathan Karnik, and Emilie Lynn serve as understudies.

In the production Prince Tamino (Rude) embarks on a journey to rescue Princess Pamina (Fernandez)—the daughter of the Queen of the Night (Rohm)—all with the help of a magical flute.

The creative team will include assistant director Nora Geffen, music adaptor and arrangers Amanda Dehnert and Andre Pluess, music director Amanda Dehnert, sound designer Andre Pluess, associate music director/conductor Paul Mutzabaugh, set designer Todd Rosenthal, costume designer Ana Kuzmanic, lighting designer T.J. Gerckens, and wig and hair designer Charles “Chuck” LaPointe. Casting is by Lauren Port.

Patrick Fries serves as production stage manager alongside Beth Koehler as stage manager.
