Tony-winning actor Anika Noni Rose will join the cast of the upcoming movie Body Cam from director Malik Vittahl. The movie, written by Richmon Riedel and produced by Paramount Players, stars Mary J. Blige and Nat Wolff.
Body Cam follows the story of a group of LAPD police officers haunted by the guilt tied to the murder of a black youth by white offers—which was captured on video and destroyed in a cover-up. Rose plays Taneesha Brand.
Rose most recently appeared onstage in Classic Stage Company’s Carmen Jones. She made her Broadway debut in 1998 in Footloose and won a Tony Award for her performance in 2004’s Caroline, or Change. She rose to fame after starring alongside Jennifer Hudson and Beyoncé in the film adaptation of Dreamgirls as Lorrell Robinson. In 2008, she came back to Broadway in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and later earned her second Tony nomination for A Raisin in the Sun.
On screen, she appeared on Power, which stars Broadway cohort Brandon Victor Dixon. She also led the TV series The Quad on USA as Dr. Eva Fletcher. She is well known for voicing Princess Tiana in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog and will bring the character back to life in the upcoming Ralph Breaks the Internet.
