Over 25 years since its Tony-winning Broadway debut, the Disney musical The Lion King continues to roar at the box office, taking in $2,226,635 at the Minskoff for the week ending August 20. The international hit was seen by 13,499 theatregoers last week, who paid an average ticket price of $164.95.
It was also another good week for Good Night, Oscar, which features a Tony-winning turn by stage and screen star Sean Hayes. For the sixth consecutive week, the limited engagement enjoyed the highest gross of its
run, earning $1,061,789 at the Belasco Theatre over just seven performances. It's the first time that the play, which spotlights subversive
wit Oscar Levant, entered The $1 Million Club. Performances conclude August 27.
Alex Edelman's solo show Just For Us, which opened at the Hudson in June, played the final performance of its limited engagement August 19. During its last week, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit played to 99.47% crowds and took in $812,208 at the box office.
