After a 10-year separation, Mamma Mia! returned to Broadway August 2 at the Winter Garden Theatre playing to a 100% capacity crowd. Although it only played one performance in its first week, that single show brought in $261,796. Should subsequent performances do equally well, the celebrated musical could prove to be a box-office hit just like its original production. Opening night is set for August 14.

A mix of other long-running musicals, plus a few from the 2024–2025 season, dominated the box-office figures for the week ending August 3.

Leading the pack: the international hit Wickedwhich took in $2,344,841 at the Gershwin, followed closely by the Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton, which earned $2,231,399 (this week marks the show's 10th anniversary, which should see a handsome return at the box office). Others in the top five included the two Disney classics, The Lion King and Aladdin, bringing in, respectively, $2,201,502 and $1,432,616. Rounding out the top five is the 2025 Tony-winning Maybe Happy Endinggrossing $1,401,674.

Just in Timethe Bobby Darin biomusical starring Tony winner Jonathan Groff, continues to sell out, playing to 103.26% capacity. The hit, which plays one of the smaller Broadway houses, Circle in the Square, also had the priciest ticket with an average paid admission of $231.84.

Overall, the 28 currently running Broadway shows brought in a total of $30,062,727, dipping 4.81% from the previous week. However, with the return of Mamma Mia! and a host of other plays and musicals set to open this fall, those numbers will likely increase dramatically in a short period of time. There were also 236,981 audience members who paid an average ticket price of $126.86 for the week ending August 3.
