Grosses Broadway Grosses Analysis: Kimberly Akimbo Packs Theatre in Final Week of Previews, A Beautiful Noise Joins the $1 Million Club, More

Broadway's box office continued its upward trajectory with the highest-grossing week since May.

Bringing in $32.3 million cumulatively between the 34 currently running shows last week, Broadway enjoyed its highest total grosses since May. The week's highest performers were The Music Man with $2.9 million, Hamilton with $2 million, MJ The Musical with $1.8 million, Wicked with $1.7 million, and The Phantom of the Opera with $1.7 million; top-five mainstay The Lion King played a fully comped 25th anniversary performance November 13, leading to a lower-than-normal $1.5 million weekly take.

Kimberly Akimbo, which opened November 10, has proved it has no trouble filling seats; the new musical played to 93.52%-full houses last week, a high mark for the Jeanine Tesori-David Lindsay-Abaire musical. As is typical at the beginning of a new production's run, lots of seats were comped for critics and other members of the press, leading to just $491,165.10 at the box office.

As predicted, A Beautiful Noise officially joined the $1 Million Club this week, an achievement for a new production still in previews. Between a healthy average ticket price—$156.26—and 90.19% filled houses, it looks like this Neil Diamond jukebox biomusical has legs.

Broadway's most expensive ticket continues to be the Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster-led revival of The Music Man, which had an average price of $244.42 last week and a top price of nearly $600. Even selling more than 2,000 less tickets than shows like Wicked, the musical continues to handily take the top spot as Broadway's biggest earner.
