After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Broadway Bares will return to San Francisco June 19. Broadway Bares/San Francisco Strips V: FairyTales…Where Stripping Prevails will be presented at 8 PM at the DNA Lounge.
Produced by the The Richmond/Ermet Aid Foundation's Ken Henderson and Joe Seiler, the evening will be directed by Founding Director Deb Leamy.
The upcoming show will feature favorite fairy-tale characters in a series of specially choreographed dances. Funds raised will support local HIV services through REAF and national services through Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Broadway Bares was created in 1992 by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell, then a Broadway dancer, as a way to raise awareness and money for those living with HIV/AIDS. In Broadway Bares’ first year, Mitchell and six of his friends danced atop a New York City bar and raised $8,000 for the cause. Because of the pandemic, the last two editions of Broadway Bares were virtual presentations. Since 1988, Broadway Bares has raised more than $21 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
The Richmond/Ermet Aid Foundation created a West Coast version in San Francisco in 2006 in collaboration with Broadway Cares.
