Broadway Advocacy Coalition (BAC) and Level Forward (LF) have announced a new artists workshop, Storytelling for Social Good (SFSG), which will mark the beginning of a partnership between the two organizations.
SFSG, which previewed at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2022, is a workshop designed to provide narrative tools to artists that encourage responsible storytelling throughout entertainment media.
Addressed topics include cultural norms, debunking dominant narratives, addressing audience perception, and more. The workshop, which ranges from 90 minutes to three hours depending on the setup, is designed for producers, creatives, teams, and students.
SFSG was developed by BAC’s co-director of programming Dria Brown and LF’s programming manager and host Andrea Ambam.
“Now, more than ever, we are seeing the necessity of cultivating one’s capacity to become a socially responsible storyteller,” said Brown. “Telling and sharing stories is part of our everyday ritual. SFSG challenges the notion that commercial success must supersede intentional storytelling and offers its participants an opportunity to consider their role in creating new cultural scripts that recenter the often erased stories on the margins.”
