When Jolson, The Musicalopens June 17 at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto, it will be a homecoming of sorts.The show's namesake, superstar Al Jolson, first performed at the Royal Alexandra in 1915. According to Saturday Night Magazine, Nov 6, 1951: "He has made popular more songs than most singers of his time." He gave performances to rave reviews in 1920, 1923, and 1941.
Jolson, The Musical will give one preview, June 16.
Featuring the original London cast, including Brian Conley, the show is a co-production of Mirvish Productions and Paul Elliott.
Adapted by Francis Essex and Rob Bettinson, Jolson won the 1996 Olivier award for Best Musical in London's West End.
