Tom André Bardwell

Black Theatre Coalition has named Tom André Bardwell as their newest program director, succeeding Nik Whitcomb. Bardwell will expand BTCs programming, lead the search and hiring process for any future replacements within the organization, and develop relationships with program participants, partner offices, and external stakeholders.

Bardwell is a graduate of Emerson College and Hiram College, with an M.A. in Theatre Education and a B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology, respectively. He is a member of the 2022-2023 cohort of artEquity's BIPOC leadership circle, and previously served as an advisor to ARTS at King Street Station. He has also worked in administration at a number of organizations, including Ensemble Studio Theatre, Intiman Theatre, Cascade Public Media, ACT Theatre,
School’s Out Washington, and the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth.

Founded in 2019 by T. Oliver Reid and Warren Adams, Black Theatre Coalition works to dismantle the systemically racist and biased ideology in the theatrical job space. Over the past year, Black Theatre Coalition has been able to support more than 40 fellows and apprentices with over $1 million in funding. This year, BTC will work with 18 offices, 16 productions, and 7 program collaborators. There are currently 48 participants in the program, including 26 Broadway fellows, 18 apprentices, 6 Broadway Across America fellows, and one observer.
