Best Musical Winner Kimberly Akimbo Will End Great Broadway Adventure in April

Broadway's Kimberly Akimbo will play its final performance April 28 at the Booth Theatre. The Tony-winning Jeanine Tesori-David Lindsay-Abaire musical began previews October 12, 2022, and opened November 10 the same year. As of the final bow, the musical will have played 32 previews and 612 regular performances.

But the show's "Great Adventure" isn't over yet. As previously announced, a national tour will kick off from Denver Center for the Performing Arts beginning in September, with casting to be announced. The full itinerary, also to be announced, will see the show traveling to 60 cities over 75 weeks.

Based on Lindsay-Abaire's 2000 play of the same name, Kimberly Akimbo came to Broadway following an Off-Broadway world premiere at Atlantic Theater Company in 2021. The entire cast, led by Tony winner Victoria Clark in the title role, reprised their performances for the Broadway bow. The work features a book and lyrics by Lindsay-Abaire and music by Tesori. The story follows Kimberly Levaco, a New Jersey teenager with a rare disorder that causes her to age four times faster than normal. Clark won her second Tony Award for her performance, one of the show's five wins at the 2023 ceremony. The production took Best Musical, with Bonnie Milligan winning Best Featured Actress in a Musical and Lindsay-Abaire for his book. Jeanine Tesori also won for her score, making her the most Tony awarded female composer in Broadway history (she previously won a Tony for Fun Home).

Along with Clark and Milligan, the cast includes Justin Cooley as Seth, Steven Boyer as Buddy, Alli Mauzey as Pattie, Olivia Elease Hardy as Delia, Fernell Hogan as Martin, Michael Iskander as Aaron, and Nina White as Teresa. The complete original cast will continue on in their roles through the final performance.

The current company is rounded out by standbys Colleen Fitzpatrick, Jim Hogan, and Betsy Morgan; and understudies Skye Alyssa Friedman, Sabrina Shah, Miguel Gil, Alex Vinh, and Darron Hayes.

Jessica Stone, currently at work helming Broadway's upcoming Water for Elephants, was Tony-nominated for directing Kimberly Akimbo. Her creative team includes choreographer Danny Mefford, music director Chris Fenwick, orchestrator John Clancy (with additional orchestrations by Macy Schmidt), scenic designer David Zinn, costume designer Sarah Laux, lighting designer Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, sound designer Kai Harada, projection designer Lucy MacKinnon, and wig, hair, and make-up designer J. Jared Janas. The production is cast by The Telsey Office's Craig Burns.
