Symphony Space will stage a reading of Thornton Wilder’s one-act play The Long Christmas Dinner November 10 at 7 PM.

The one-night-only event, presented in partnership with The Public Theater, celebrates the publication of Our Town and the Cosmic One-Acts, a new collection of Wilder plays. The Long Christmas Dinner—which was the inspiration for the breakfast montage in Citizen Kane—compresses 90 years of a family’s history into the span of a single holiday meal.

The reading will star Becky Ann Baker (Freaks and Geeks, Girls), Tony winner Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton, Girls5eva), Jim Parsons (Our Town, The Big Bang Theory), and Roslyn Ruff (The Skin of Our Teeth, Fairview). They will be joined by award–winning playwrights James Ijames (Saturday Church, Fat Ham) and Sarah Ruhl (Eurydice, and writer of the introduction to the newest edition of Our Town), writer and poet Jacqueline Woodson (Brown Girl Dreaming, Miracle’s Boys), commentator and author Chris Hayes (MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes), and Tappan Wilder (Wilder’s nephew and former literary executor), to bring Wilder’s 1931 script to a New York audience.

The event will be hosted by Jeremy McCarter, current Thornton Wilder literary executor.

After the reading, the cast will remain on stage for a talkback conversation exploring the play’s enduring themes, including time, family, tradition, and how we tell our stories in new ways.
