Off-Broadway's Ars Nova and PlayCo will present Melis Aker's Hound Dog at Greenwich House Theater to kick off its 20th anniversary season. The world premiere will begin previews October 6, ahead of its October 24 opening night, with a run scheduled through November 5.
Hound Dog tells the story of a young musician, who returns home to Ankara, Turkey, to take care of her widowed father. As she faces the family and community she left to travel the world, the show takes audiences on a sonic journey of memories as she digs into her father's strange pilgrimage to Graceland, the historic home of Elvis Presley.
Machel Ross directs the work, featuring music by Aker and the Lazours. The creative team also includes music director and sound designer Avi Amon, set designer Frank J. Oliva, costume designer Qween Jean, and lighting designer Tuçe Yasak.
Federica Borlengi serves as associate director, with assistant and associate designers including Michael Ruiz-del-Vizo, Amelia Camilo, Roya Abab, Jamie Tippett, and Brandon Fillette. Casting is by The Telsey Office's Destiny Lilly. Bryan Bauer serves as production stage manager with Caren Celine Morris as assistant stage manager.
Ars Nova is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the What’s Ars Is Yours: Name Your Price ticket initiative, allowing audiences to name their price.
