The highly anticipated Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Cruise to Iceland trip is coming up, and cabins are still available! As with all Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Cruises, there’s a great lineup of stars performing and mingling with guests: Norm Lewis, Emily Skinner, and Tony Award-winner Ari'el Stachel.
Stachel won a Tony Award for his performance in The Band’s Visit and recently premiered his one-person show Other Off-Broadway. Now, this leading man is ready to bring his talent and charm to the high seas.
We caught up with Stachel to talk about the upcoming trip, his connection to Seth, and what fans can expect from this unique Broadway adventure.
What are you most excited about for Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Cruise to Iceland, and what do you hope to experience while on board?
Ari’el Stachel: I’ve never been on a cruise, so I’m excited to go on this trip first and foremost. I’m also excited to be with Seth and Norm (who I have admired since I was a kid), so I’ll be pinching myself as I get to sing alongside them and Emily. And I hope to have a really great time, entertaining people and experiencing the world on the ship for a week.
Seth is known for his incredible knowledge of Broadway and his hilarious "Deconstructed" videos. How did you first meet Seth, and what is your favorite memory of working or spending time with him?
I first encountered Seth on YouTube when I was in high school. I think he was the original influencer before there were influencers. Seth became a producer on my other show, and we got to know each other really well. He is so funny, witty and talented.
Seth Rudetsky’s Broadway Cruise is a unique opportunity for fans to get up close and personal with their favorite stars. What do you think makes this kind of intimate experience so special for both you and the fans?
I think New York is a very intense environment, so it’s sort of leads to interactions that might not be as relaxed as they are on a beautiful ship sailing through the ocean. I think the natural beauty and surroundings create the environment that’s makes it really intimate—I’m just excited!
Beyond the performances, what are you looking forward to doing in Iceland? Do you have a favorite port or a specific activity you’re hoping to do?
Truth be told, I have no idea what to expect. But I love traveling and I’m extremely eager to visit a new country.
What's one thing you can tease or share with fans about what you'll be performing or discussing on the cruise?
Seth and I haven’t locked in anything yet, but I know it will be important for me to share some of my Yemeni Jewish heritage in the music that I sing. I think more broadly, Seth and I are going to be excited to explore different kinds of Jewish music in addition to showtunes and everything else.
