A new tour of Shrek the Musical is heading for the United Kingdom, with a total of 31 different venues planned for a nearly year-long journey.
Beginning at Theatre Royal Plymouth July 21, the production will continue through April 2024. A special preview performance will be offered February 27, when the cast will perform at BBC Big Night of the Musicals at Manchester's AO arena, and a 90-minute presentation will be offered on BBC One and BBC Radio 2 in the spring.
Shrek will star Antony Lawrence as Shrek, Strictly Come Dancing winner Joanna Clifton as Princess Fiona, Olivier nominee James Gillan as Lord Farquaad, and West End alum Brandon Lee Sears as Donkey. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The award-winning show by David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori is based on the Academy Award-winning DreamWorks animated franchise Shrek and was first performed on Broadway in 2008.
The creative team for Shrek the Musical will be led by director and choreographer Nick Winston, and co-director Sam Holmes, who played Lord Farquaad on the previous U.K. tour of Shrek. Set and costume design will be by Philip Witcomb, lighting design will be by Ben Cracknel, sound design will be by Ben Harrison, and the production will be cast by Jim Arnold.
